8 Best High Paying Part Time Jobs
1. Run Facebook Ads
After I quit my job as a high school band director to run this site full time, I supplemented my income by running Facebook ads part time. I learned as much as I could about digital marketing and found my first client: the jeweler who sold me my wife’s engagement ring.
It took me about 2-3 hours a week to manage his ads. After adding a few more clients, I was out-earning what I made as a teacher. And I was still working part time on my own schedule.
Running Facebook ads is creating ad campaigns and marketing on Facebook. You’re helping small business owners leverage Facebook’s robust ad platform to run highly targeted ad campaigns.
Big businesses have been doing this for years – they have marketing teams responsible for creating massive ad campaigns. Small business owners just don’t have the resources for that, but many can benefit from having a part time Facebook manager.
Facebook Ads Quick Facts:
- Pay: Facebook ads clients are worth around $1,000-$1,500/month
- Requirements: A degree or certificate isn’t required, but you should have a working knowledge of the Facebook Ads Manager platform
If you’re interested in learning how to run ads on Facebook, I teamed up with my buddy Mike Yanda (a lawyer turned digital marketer whose digital ad agency now brings in $30k/month) to create the Facebook Side Hustle Course.
The Facebook Side Hustle Course teaches you how to get your part time Facebook ad agency up and running by teaching you these three things:
- How to create and manage Facebook ad campaigns using Ads Manager
- How to find business owners who need help running ads
- How to get them to say “yes” to your services
Start making $1,000-$2,000 running ads

On-demand food delivery services like Doordash are some of the fastest-growing side hustles. These are insanely flexible ways to make extra money – you can schedule time to work in advance or open the app to drive whenever you have extra time.
Drivers for DoorDash mainly deliver for local and chain restaurants, but in 2020, DoorDash added convenience stores and drugstores, like CVS.

Tutoring is a surprisingly high paying part time job, especially if you’re able to do ACT or SAT prep – you can make upwards of $50/hour or more.
BookNook is an online tutoring platform that connects K-8 students with tutors who can help them develop critical math and reading skills. Tutors make $15-$22/hour and must meet at least one of these requirements:
- 3+ years teaching or tutoring or
- 1 year teaching or tutoring and at least a bachelor’s degree or

You also must be a U.S. citizen to qualify. The tutoring sessions last 30 minutes, and you will work with 1-4 students at a time. There’s no lesson planning involved — BookNook handles this part for you.

4. Freelance Part Time
Freelancing means you’re contracting out your services to other business owners or companies, and as long as the work is available, you can work as much or as little as you’d like.
There are a lot of high paying part time jobs for freelancers in a wide range of fields, with freelancers earning a median rate of $28/hour. Skilled services, like programming, marketing, IT, and business consulting make up the majority of freelance work, but you can also freelance in fields like:
- Writing
- Copyediting/proofreading
- Web development
- Graphic design
- Video editing
- Web design
- Transcription
- Bookkeeping
- Research
- Administration
The highest paying part time jobs for freelancers go to people who already have experience. For example, a brand new freelance virtual assistant might earn $12-$15/hour, but one with several years of experience and advanced skills in marketing or accounting can earn closer to $25-$30/hour.
You can find part time freelance jobs on sites like FlexJobs or Freelancer, and Fiverr is a really popular platform for new freelancers to start finding work.
Freelancing Quick Facts:
- Pay: Highly dependent on the field, but can range from $15-$100/hour. According to FlexJobs, some of the highest paying freelance jobs are: Accountant $38/hour, PR manager $50/hour, software developer $42/hour, web developer $35/hour, technical writer $45/hour, and graphic designer $36/hour
- Requirements: Degrees and certifications vary by job, you will most likely want to set up an LLC for your business, and create a website so potential clients can find out more about your services
5. Part Time Package Handler for UPS
The average pay for UPS package handlers isn’t much – it averages $14/hour. But what makes this one of the best part time jobs is that it comes with benefits, which is a huge perk. There are also part time supervisor positions that pay upwards of $20/hour and include benefits.
To qualify for benefits through UPS, you must work 225 hours or more in any three-month period, but fewer than 400 hours. Benefits include:
- Medical care and hospitalization
- Behavioral health
- Pharmacy and prescription drugs
- Dental care
- Vision care
- Hearing care
UPS package handlers can also earn up to $25,000 for their college education. 70% of full-time UPS employees start as package handlers. This includes UPS drivers who, according to Glassdoor, average $80,000/year.
UPS Package Handler Quick Facts:
- Pay: $14-$20/hour plus benefits and sign-on and/or retention bonuses based on the location
- Requirements: Be able to lift up to 70lbs, high school diploma or GED, able to work in 3 to 4-hour shifts Monday-Friday
6. Drive for Amazon Flex
Amazon Flex outsources deliveries for Prime Now, Amazon Fresh, and Amazon Restaurant. Flex drivers use their own vehicles and schedule their hours in 3-6 hour blocks.
Amazon Flex isn’t available across the U.S. – Amazon only hires for these part time jobs when there’s a need for more drivers. This is actually a good thing – otherwise, you’d be competing with too many other drivers for time slots.
The way this part time job works is that you drive to an Amazon fulfillment center, open the app to find out what you’re delivering, load the packages in your vehicle, and use the app to get directions for delivery.
Amazon Flex Quick Facts:
- Pay: Amazon Flex drivers make $18-$25/hour
- Requirements: Smartphone with GPS and scanning capabilities, midsize 4-door sedan/truck/SUV/van, vehicle insurance, pass a criminal background check, clean driving record
7. Music Teacher
Back when I was doing everything I could to quickly pay off my student loan debt, I seriously considered working as a part time music teacher. There were always parents looking for music lessons outside of school.
These are high paying part time jobs for anyone who can teach guitar, piano, and violin – these are the three most popular instruments.
To get started, I recommend contacting local schools and passing along your contact information. You should also let your inner circle (friends, family, social media) know that you’re teaching lessons so they can pass the word.
Music Teacher Quick Facts:
- Pay: You can make $25-$50 for half an hour lessons and $45-$75 for hour-long lessons
- Requirements: Should be competent on the instrument you’re teaching, have patience with your students, be able to clearly communicate, and you will need high-level credentials (like a degree in music) if you want to teach high-level lessons
8. Referee
I had no idea how much referees made until pretty recently – $25-$35/hour – and what’s really cool about this high paying part time job is that it’s a good one for high school and college students too.
Referees should have experience playing the sport they’re reffing, and knowing the rules of the game is a must. Most of these part time jobs have you work weekday evenings and all day Saturday and Sunday – just think about when club, high school, and little league sports play.
You can find refereeing jobs by contacting the community and athletic centers in your area. You can also contact your state’s high school sports association. Google “[your state] high school sports association” to find the contact info.
Refereeing Quick Facts:
- Pay: $25-$35/hour
- Requirements: The biggest requirement is understanding the rules of the sport, but experience playing is really helpful
The Final Word on High Paying Part Time Jobs
In my opinion, the best part time jobs are ones that are super flexible and have the potential to become a full-time income. Running Facebook ads fits that bill, and there are several students in our Facebook Side Hustle Course that make an extra $5,000/month on the side of their full-time job.
Delivering food for Doordash is a solid part time job if you’re looking for something with a lower commitment and a lot of flexibility. Both of those companies are actively hiring, and I recommend signing up for both to increase your earning potential.
Just know, part time jobs don’t have to be lowing paying gigs – many legitimate options pay really well for the work you’re doing.
