You probably recognize Lyft as one of the leading rideshare platforms, and they launched a Women+ Connect feature to help women and nonbinary drivers and riders feel more in-control of their ride experience*. Drivers get all of the flexibility and bonus offers that Lyft is known for, with the added benefit of increased chances to match with women and nonbinary riders.

If you’re interested in driving with Lyft, you must meet the following requirements:

• You’re at least 25 years old
• You own an iPhone or Android smartphone
• You have a clean driving record and auto insurance
• You have an eligible 4-door vehicle (car year varies by region)
• You consent to a criminal background check and review of your driving record

2. DoorDash

Earning potential: Varies based on order

You’re probably familiar with them already, but Doordash is a driving app that you make money by delivering restaurant takeout, groceries, convenience store items, and more.

DoorDash drivers are paid a base pay of $2 to $10 per order, keep 100% of their tips, and DoorDash offers challenges and promotions to increase driver pay. Drivers can schedule their hours in advance, there are no minimum hours to drive, and drivers are paid weekly.

3. Shipt

Earning potential: $15 to $20/hour

Shipt was founded in 2014 as a driving app to make money delivering groceries. It was purchased by Target in 2017, and it’s since expanded to over 5,000 cities nationwide. Like its competitors, DoorDash and Instacart, Shipt shoppers can schedule their hours in advance and get paid weekly.

4. Instacart

Earning potential: $15 to $20/hour

Instacart has become one of the most well-known food delivery apps. There are jobs for in-store and full-service shoppers, and full-service is what you want to check out if you’re interested in making money with your car.

Full-service shoppers take customer orders in the app, shop for the orders, and deliver the orders. These shoppers have the most flexibility — compared to in-store shoppers who only work in grocery stores and stage orders — and you can pick the days and hours you work.

5. Uber Eats

Earning potential: $15 to $20/hour

Uber Eats (part of the Uber family of driving apps) is available in over 6,000 cities across 45 countries, and drivers specialize in food delivery. Drivers make $15 to $20/hour on average and keep 100% of their tips.

The requirements for Uber Eats are:

• Drivers must meet the minimum age to drive in your city
• Have at least one year of licensed driving experience (if you’re under 23 years old, you need 3 years of experience driving)
• A valid U.S. driver’s license
• Eligible vehicle (this varies by city, but you can expect requirements for a 4-door vehicle that is at least a 1998 model or newer)
• Provide proof of residency in your city or state
• Have vehicle insurance

6. Postmates

Earning potential: $10 to $15/hour

After launching in 2011, Postmates quickly became known as the “anything, anywhere, anytime” service. Postmates was acquired by Uber in 2020, but customers can still use the Postmates app to place orders, and you can still sign up to drive for Postmates. 

Similar to other delivery apps in this section, Postmates is widely available, and drivers can schedule their hours in advance or drive when the app has an abundance of orders.

7. Grubhub

Earning potential: $12 to $15/hour

GrubHub is considered the OG among these food delivery driving apps to make money — it was founded in 2004. It’s now available in more than 4,000 U.S. cities and partners with more than 225,000 restaurants.

Drivers must be at least 19 years old (at least 21 in Chicago and Las Vegas). You’re encouraged to schedule the hours in advance, but you can also open the app and drive whenever you have extra time, as long as the app is busy enough.

8. Amazon Flex

Earning potential: $18 to $25/hour

Amazon Flex is an Amazon service that outsources drivers for Prime Now, AmazonFresh, and Amazon Restaurant Delivery. Drivers can pick when they work and are required to drive for 3-6 hour-long blocks. You’ll also need insulated bags or coolers to keep refrigerated or freezer items cool.

If you’re interested, Amazon Flex driver requirements are:

• Drivers must be at least 21 years old
• Have a valid driver’s license
• Drive a 4-door, mid-sized or larger vehicle
• Have car insurance

9. goPuff

Earning potential: $10 to $15/hour

While it’s not as well known as DoorDash or Uber Eats, goPuff is an excellent app for ordering essentials, groceries, snacks, cleaning supplies, drinks, over-the-counter medicine, and even electronics.

All goPuff orders are fulfilled at one of its 200+ warehouses. Drivers schedule their hours in advance and all deliveries are within a 30-minute radius of one of the goPuff warehouses.

10. Saucey

Earning potential: ~$10/hour

Saucey is a driving app for anyone who wants to make money delivering alcohol. It operates in a limited number of U.S. cities, and drivers must be at least 21 years old. You’ll be expected to check IDs for every order.

11. Eaze

Earning potential: $18 to $26/hour

Eaze is a cannabis delivery service — yes, you read that correctly! Eaze only operates in California right now, but it’s one of the best driving apps to make money because drivers make anywhere from $18-$26/hour.

You must be at least 21 years old, pass a criminal background check, and live in a state where selling weed is legal.

12. Favor

Earning potential: $18 to $20/hour

Favor is a Texas-based delivery driving app that’s owned by H-E-B and operates for restaurants in major markets like Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, and a bunch of cities like Odessa, Amarillo, Temple, San Antonio, and more. Drivers earn 25% of the delivery fee plus 100% of any tips. 

Favor calls its delivery drivers Runners, and you can deliver in a car, truck, motorcycle, and scooter. Drivers must be at least 18 years old, and in Austin, you can deliver via bicycle.

13. Delivery.com

Earning potential: Up to $15/hour

Delivery.com is a driving app based in New York City that specializes in delivering food, laundry services, alcohol, and groceries. What’s unique is that customers earn points for every dollar spend and points can be redeemed for cash or donated.

14. Uber Rideshare

Earning potential: $10 to $20/hour

When Uber launched in 2009, it quickly began disrupting the taxi industry. It’s now the go-to option for anyone looking for a safe ride home from the bar, a ride to the airport, etc.

15. HopSkipDrive

Earning potential: Up to $50/hour

HopSkipDrive is a company that hires “CareDrivers” to provide safe and reliable transportation for kids. Drivers earn up to $50/hour, and HopSkipDrive says their service is for students “who don’t get on traditional bus routes or need a little extra help.”

If you want to make money driving for HopSkipDrive, here are their driver requirements:

• 5 years of caregiving experience
• At least 23 years old
• 4-door vehicle no more than 10 years old
• Good driving record
• Multi-agency background check, including fingerprinting

16. Carvertise

Earning potential: Up to $300/month

Carvertise is one of the best money-making apps for people who are already driving a lot. The idea is that Carvertise pays you to have your car wrapped in advertisements — up to $300/month!

Here’s how it works:

• Apply for Carvertise (you’ll need a 2008 model car or newer with a factory paint job).
• Carvertise will see if they can match you with a campaign – this depends on where you live and what advertisers are interested in, and you can turn down campaigns if you’re not interested.
• Once you’ve been matched with a campaign, Carvertise sets you up with a professional auto wrapper to get your car wrapped.
• The installer takes the wrap off when the campaign is over.
• You get paid once a month via direct deposit for the duration of the campaign.

17. HyreCar

Earning potential: Up to $700/month

What we love about this driving app is that you’re not actually driving! Yep, HyreCar is an app where you can make somewhat passive income renting out your vehicle to others. It’s one of a growing list of peer-to-peer rental companies. 

HyreCar says the average driver makes upwards of $700/month, which equals more than $8,000 annually!

HyreCar takes a 15% to 25% commission on every rental, and this helps them offer up to $1,000,000 liability coverage in the event of physical damage or theft.

Roadie is a new service owned by UPS that’s designed to connect people who want to send stuff with someone who’s already driving in that direction. Drivers make an average of $15 per hour on local drivers and up to $650 for longer gigs. 

Here are the requirements to drive for Roadie:

• Be at least 18 years old
• Have a Social Security number
• Have a valid U.S. driver’s license

Drivers are paid weekly via direct deposit.

19. UPS

Earning potential: $20+/hour

Driving for UPS can become a long-term job because the company is known for hiring from the inside. While you can become a full-time driver and take advantage of full-time benefits, UPS also hires independent contractors during the holiday season to keep up with a demand for more drivers.

Similar to UPS, FedEx is one of the mot well-known delivery companies in the world. And like UPS, you can work as a full-time driver or become an independent contractor and pick up shift when there’s a high demand for drivers.
