M$M is on Business Insider!

Hey Destroyers, happy Friday!!!!

If you haven’t seen it yet, Business Insider picked up my story of paying off $40,000 of student loans on a teacher’s salary. 🙂 That was honestly one of the biggest news outlets that I hadn’t had the chance to be on yet, so I’m super excited about it!!!

They asked me to give my best tips on tackling debt, and the article went up this week. Give it a read below (but come back). I’m really interested to hear what you all think about it:

I paid off $40,000 of student loans in a year and a half on a teacher’s salary — here are 5 things you should do if you want to get out of debt fast

You guys know me – I think the biggest part of paying off debt early is the mindset. I see so many people that have decided they’ll never get ahead before they even start (ahem comment sections of every article I’ve been featured on).

Too many people spend time looking for a freaking blueprint to debt-freedom. There isn’t one, especially when it comes to timelines and payoff amounts. There are SO many stories like mine out there, and none of them are one size fits all.

The most successful people that I’ve met in life don’t look to replicate success. Period. They try to find strategies, and then look at the individual circumstances available to them and see what they can do. Please please please don’t get caught up in trying to get rid of your debt like me or anyone else.

Find your own way, and make your own story.

Have a great weekend everyone, let me know what you think of the feature!

Question for you:

What’s the most important thing about personal finance to you?

    Congrats on the big break!

Great to hear you say mindset is the biggest part – that’s what I write about for rental property investors. You have to approach it as a long-term goal and take consistent baby steps.

Thanks so much! I’ve definitely found that mindset trumps any small tips I can give. If you don’t want to do it , you won’t. Pretty simple haha!

Congrats on the great press, M$M!! That’s awesome!

Gosh, it’s tough to pick just one thing about personal finance. If I had to choose, I’d say motivation. You can have all of the right tools staring you in the face, but it still takes gumption to act on the tools and knowledge that you have.

Awesome job M$M! Really enjoy hearing your story and great to see it get out there for everyone. Get ready for the haters though…

Much appreciated! Haha I got used to haters last month with the CNBC articles. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing.

Nicely done – congratulations. Focusing on the goals and dreams really helped us. There’s gotta be a why behind it. Once you’ve got the why it’s easy to stop eating out, or dropping $30-40 bucks meeting up with friends for a drink. The other thing with peer pressure is that the word “no” is a full sentence. You don’t owe anyone an explanation.
