Ugh. Millennials are just these disgustingly self-centered, whiny, needy little child adults that can't handle the mean mean workplace. They are ruining this country with their excessive want of “free stuff” and you know…jobs.
Here's why the baby boomer generation's constant millennial slamming rhetoric annoys me so much: you guys raised us. Every time a baby boomer utters, “Millennials are SO entitled,” they might as well exchange it for, “Man some of us might have blown it on the parenting” instead.
Don't get me wrong – I don't hate all baby boomers or think they all really sucked as parents. My parents are unbelievable people. They basically coached a not very smart guy like me into a multiple-business owning young entrepreneur, college graduate, eagle scout, financial success story (in progress), and several other things I couldn't have done on my own. I'm exempting them and other great parents from this post's headline.
This is the real problem: Baby boomers essentially took the Rolls Royce of a country that their parents handed over the keys to and then skyrocketed the national debt, didn't save enough to retire, crashed the rock-solid housing market, and many other issues that have made things hard for millennials right at the start of their careers. Millennials are now upset and voicing their anger, and boomers are upset for being called out. Hence the headlines up top.
We haven't even talked about the flawed college finance system (created by baby boomers) that essentially straps a mortgage to 18 year olds like a $1.3 trillion dollar backpack. And yes, some millennials are getting useless art degrees. That might have had something to do with the public school education culture (created by baby boomers) of pushing every kid towards college and ignoring trade schools altogether. But hey – no child was left behind right?
Oh by the way – millennials didn't give themselves the 7th place ribbons and participation trophies at the track meet. Guess who did though?
So yeah – millennials are basically the image staring back at baby boomers in the mirror. You guys created this entitled generation by coddling kids into entitlement and weakening the economy. Sorry if that hurts anyone's feelings, but similar to the workplace millennials are apparently “afraid” of, the internet can also be a harsh place.
If you are one of the awesome baby boomers that raised your kids to work hard, be humble, and contribute to society – you rock and are heavily unappreciated. If you're one of the ones that helped cause the problems that millennials and the country are dealing with right now…can you just chill out for a little bit and let us try to fix this thing?
Oh and boomers – thanks for setting us all up with tiny hands, the Zodiac killer, email master, and bird grandpa as presidential candidates. I'm sure that will work out.
